In short
Deleting your account removes your personal profile from GoDoctor and signs you out everywhere. Your name, email, phone number, medical profile and saved location are erased or anonymised so they are no longer linked to you, and your email and phone number are freed so you can register again later if you wish.
A limited set of clinical and payment records is retained in anonymised form only where Nigerian law requires it — see What we must keep below. This applies to both the GoDoctor patient app and the GoDoctor Provider app.
Delete in the app
The fastest way to delete your account is from inside the app:
- Open the GoDoctor app and go to the Profile tab.
- Scroll to the Danger zone and tap Delete account.
- Read the confirmation, then tap Delete to confirm.
Your account is deleted immediately and you are signed out. The same steps apply in the GoDoctor Provider app (Profile → Danger zone → Delete account).
Delete by request
If you cannot access the app, you can ask us to delete your account. Email [email protected] (or our privacy team at [email protected]) from the email address on your account, with the subject “Delete my account”. We may need to verify your identity before we act on the request, to protect your account.
What we remove
When you delete your account, we erase or anonymise:
- your name, email address and phone number;
- your medical profile — blood group, genotype, allergies, chronic conditions, current medications, weight, height and emergency contact;
- your saved address and location; and
- your active sessions — you are signed out on every device.
After deletion you can no longer sign in, and your email and phone number are released for re-registration.
What we must keep
Some records are retained in anonymised form
Nigerian medical record-keeping rules and financial regulations require healthcare and payment providers to retain certain records even after an account is closed. We keep only what the law requires, and we de-link it from your identity.
The limited records we retain, no longer linked to you, are:
- Clinical records — consultations, prescriptions, lab requests/results and vital-sign readings, retained for the period required by applicable medical record-keeping rules;
- Payment & financial records — transaction and order history, and (for providers) earnings ledger and payout history, retained for the period required by accounting and tax law; and
- Audit logs — minimal security and compliance logs required to detect and investigate fraud and abuse.
We do not use any retained data to contact you or for advertising. For how long different categories are kept, see the Privacy Policy.
How long it takes
Deletion from the app takes effect immediately: your personal data is anonymised and your sessions are revoked at once. Requests sent by email are actioned within the timeframe required by the NDPA/NDPR, normally within 30 days, after we have verified your identity. Backups that contain residual copies are rotated out on our standard backup cycle.
